Making Parenting a Pleasure

Patricia Henry

A Group-based Positive Parenting Curriculum designed by  Manlee-Saks, Ellen Hymenm, Linda Reilly and Juvata Rusch.    They maintain that “Being a parent is the most difficult, challenging, and rewarding experience that life offers.  It is an awesome responsibility to raise a child who will become a healthy, well-functioning person to take his or her place in our next generation.”

This curriculum takes a look at the parenting skills of our own parents or guardian (s). Do you see some of the parenting skills your parents used with you?  Do you realize that you will also use some of them yourselves and pass them on to your own kids?   We often use skills that our parents used, and often, sometimes we purposely do not use some skills that our parents use or did.

In this program, participants share and discuss extensively parenting tools and skills we currently use, those our parents use or used and even those of others.  “No one is an expert, but we learn from one another and discover in fun ways how to fine-tune or sharpen our skills–while making friends and gaining a new support group,” says Patricia Henry, YOMI Facilitator – see some of our graduates!
